The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the relatively new federal agency charged with overseeing loans, mortgages and other consumer-related products, has been expanding over the past year and will continue to do so.

The agency, which was created by the Dodd-Frank financial reform act in July 2010, put out its semiannual report yesterday that detailed its hiring numbers. In July of 2011, there were 500 staff members. As of June 30, 2012, there are 889.

That growth is set to continue; The agency had planned to have 1,200 positions filled by the end of September 2012, according to its budget request.

Current job openings on the USAjobs.gov site include those for bank examiners, data analysts, senior economists and investigators.
