Star BofA Merrill Lynch banking analyst Guy Moszkowski is heading to Autonomous Research, a London-based boutique research firm. He'll be in charge of the firm's U.S. operations, which will start with 16 employees in the fall and eventually grow to between 30 and 40. Analysts, traders and sales representatives will be hired. The firm currently has 31 employees and covers 75 companies.

The anticipation of stricter regulation is leading banks to close proprietary trading desks entirely, freeing up traders to hop to high frequency trading firms that are hiring. Most recently, Sun Holdings hired an equity strategist from Goldman Sachs. Spire Europe also has been bringing people on. The flow of traders from banks to smaller firms is set to continue, as eventually banks will be prevented from trading with their own capital.

Russian banks are hiring while their European and U.S. counterparts pull back. Sberbank has snagged talent from bulge-bracket banks, while Renaissance Capital just added four managing directors in its equity products group in New York, Moscow and London. BrokerCreditServices and Otkritie are eager to hire, while VTB Capital has about 100 spots left to fill this year.
