It's a great year to be a tax accountant.
According to Wanted Analytics, which tracks online job ads, the number of openings for accountants and auditors this tax season was up substantially from last year.
More than 29,000 job ads were posted online last month, a 46% increase over March of last year. That's the highest number since the beginning of the recession in October 2008.
New Yorkers and those in Chicago and Boston seem to be in greatest need of accountants this year. The number of online ads rose 54.5% in New York, Wanted said, 57.4% in the area of the Windy City and 55% in Boston. In contrast, ads for accountants rose only 21.4% in Los Angeles.
With demand up for number crunchers, it will be even harder for recruiters to fill positions.
