MF Global Inc. will close its Chicago office on March 30 and lay off its 35 employees by mid-April.
The office of James W. Giddens, the trustee overseeing the winding down of MF Global's brokerage unit, told employees last evening the office will close. About 35 employees will be affected, according to Kent Jarrell, spokesperson for the trustee's office.
That will leave the brokerage with fewer than 40 employees by April 15, with all of them based in New York.
The Chicago employees will be paid through April 15.
